For every hire through Hercules, a tree is planted.
Our client Skanska, have been the first to adopt our Boots 2 Roots initiative at Hercules. As part of their community engagement on a large project, Skanska are creating fruitful relationships with small community groups that are impacted by highways improvement schemes.
Winthorpe Community Gardens is a small space behind the Church of Promise nestled in a residential area in Newark. Whilst the garden was opened with the purpose to create sustainable growing spaces for food, the immensely positive social benefits have rippled through the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Since the pandemic, it is thought that communities across the globe are still suffering with the social isolation and loneliness that came as a biproduct after months of lockdown and uncertainty. Years later, the shifts in the way we behave socially are still notable.
Winthorpe Community Gardens are cultivating stronger social connections and sense of community through gardening, therefore improving the wellbeing, physical and mental health of the locals!
Garden leaders Miles & Sue, were proud to receive trees through Boots 2 Roots. They selected fruit tree varieties that will provide shade and fresh produce for years to come and compliment the beautiful community garden.
Skanksa and Hercules have been involved with volunteering at the garden by preparing vegetable beds and irrigation systems for summer use. We’ve been lucky enough to meet some frequent visitors of the garden who are inherently grateful for the service it provides, the social connections they’ve created, and be part of the community spirit!
At Hercules, we’re super proud to be part of this incredible community project at Winthorpe, we hope to build on our relationship as we continue operational works in their area.
We hope this story is the first of many to transform community spaces across the UK!
