Hercules are proud to be part of Industry Insights in partnership with Warwickshire Skills Hub, to engage with career leaders and teachers that work in secondary schools across Warwickshire who are pivotal in inspiring and shaping every student’s educational journey.

Along with the rest of the UK Construction industry, Hercules are on a mission to shift the common myths and misconceptions around a career in construction that young people are met with. We’ve come a long way from the racial, ethnic and gender inequality experienced on construction sites. Whilst we continue to strive for fairer, equal and just social environments, Hercules are proud to have been part of the story so far.

By partnering with Warwickshire Skills Hub, we hope to inspire the leaders that are key in shaping young futures and raising aspirations of the next generation. We believe that working in construction should be promoted as a diverse, meaningful and robust careers choice.

We hope to inspire and shift the conversations that happen in secondary education when it comes to construction.

Where are the construction role models when we grow out of Bob the Builder?

Working in the built environment requires a huge host of diversity in terms of skills.

So why do the demographical breakdowns seen in industry not quite reflect that?

Encouraging a multitude of social groups with different strengths, backgrounds and capabilities will inherently create an even stronger, more collaborative and more robust industry that we need for a resilient construction industry in the UK.

How do we do break down the barriers?

  • Raise awareness with careers leaders on diverse roles and skills required in the industry, getting them energised about what the industry can offer young people.
  • Springboard conversations had in schools about construction in a positive way
  • Focus on the benefits of a career in construction; promote the support, inclusion and allyship seen in workforces, and the greater sense of community.

The first Industry Insights workshop was launched on Wednesday 25th June. – Stay tuned as we review the impact of secondary education on the UK’s construction industry.
